Can Acupressure Help Relieve Insomnia?

Cant sleep Try accupressure to help kick your body into deep relaxation

Insomnia is among the most common sleep disorders in adults. About 40% of the adult population suffers from some degree of insomnia, with 10 to 15% of people reporting chronic insomnia and another 25 to 35% reporting occasional insomnia. Lack of sleep can affect every single activity in your daily life – from drowsiness and difficulty concentrating to depression and an increased risk of heart disease.

In an effort to catch some z’s, many turn to their medicine cabinets for relief. But over the past few years, more and more people have started to look for drug-free alternatives to help relieve their insomnia. One of these alternatives is based on the ancient art of acupressure.

Acupressure operates by similar principles as acupuncture. Through targeted pressure applied to specific areas of the body, it promotes blood flow, reduces stress hormones, and boosts relaxation and well-being. It is an effective way to stimulate your muscles to relax. With proper pressure, you can technically reboot your nervous system and kick it into relaxation mode.

Everyone lives busy lives with more to do and less time, and electronic devices all around only aggravate the information overload our brains receive every day. When it’s time for bed, many find it hard if not impossible to fall asleep as the brain keeps on spinning full speed and the body is unable to wind down and relax. Being able to set your body up for a restful night does not have to be complicated or require drugs, alcohol, or any sort of chemicals.

Having a relaxation routine is important to prime your body to relax and help your brain slow down before sleep. Regular acupressure massage sessions can be done at home right before bedtime and help you reduce or even eliminate the need for sleep aid drugs. Make that part of your bedtime routine, along with setting your own rules for limiting the use of electronics in the bedroom, avoiding foods with caffeine or high sugar content, and taking time to wind down before bed.

To make it easier for anyone to enjoy the benefits of acupressure massage, we created a special tool to allow you to experience the positive effects of a deep tissue massage at home or on the go. Inspired by the ancient arts of acupressure and acupuncture, the Spoonk Mat was born out of compassion for people who experience sleep problems, insomnia, pain, stress, or anxiety. Dr. Oz explained that the Spoonk Mat has been designed with “little spikes that stimulate your body’s pressure points, releasing endorphins and reducing stress”.

With the correct and consistent stimulation, your body can produce its own relaxation and feel-good chemicals that will reduce stress and help you experience deep sleep. Try using a Spoonk Mat every night – simply lie down on your back with the Spoonk Mat on your bed for 35 to 45 minutes to induce sleep. Use it consistently and you will begin training your body to relax, helping you control your insomnia naturally, without the need for sleep aid drugs.
