The Secret to Staying Motivated Even When You Feel Like Giving Up

When the road ahead seems difficult and the effort seems too much, it is tempting to simply give up or change course and try something easier, or go back to old habits. But we all know that good things take time, hard work, and consistency. The same goes for your health. Keeping a consistent exercise routine has a positive long-term impact on your whole body and mind. But what do you do to stay motivated and keep on moving even on those days when you can’t seem to get out of bed?

There is a valuable mindset tool that when employed at its full effect, acts as a powerful compass to guide you towards your ultimate goal. Whether you want to lose weight, gain strength, get healthier, do better with your finances, be more present with family, or have any major life goals you want to achieve without losing steam along the way, you can use what we call the Seven-Level Deep tool.

This is very simple – all you need is a pen, a piece of paper, and a quiet place. Write down your goal – be specific. Write “I want to lose 25lbs by May 30th, 2021” instead of “I need to lose weight”. What is your specific goal? By when do you want to achieve it? Write it down. Then, the fun part begins! Now that you have your goal written down, it is time to make you unstoppable.

On your piece of paper, below your goal, ask yourself WHY. “Why do I want to lose 25lbs by May 30th, 2021?”. Write down your answer. For example, let’s say you answered, “Because I want to have more energy”. Great! Now, use your answer and ask yourself another question. “Why do I want to have more energy?”. Write down your answer to that question.

Repeat this process until you get to seven WHY questions. Each of your answers will become your next WHY questions. Be honest, allow yourself to be vulnerable, go deep, and don’t overthink it or try to edit yourself. The magic happens when you get to ask WHY a seventh time. The answer to that is the real treasure – you have just found your truest, deepest motivation to reach your goal. It’s ok if you get a bit emotional, it means you allowed yourself to let the truth come out.

And that, dear friends, is what will add gasoline to your fire. Even when you don’t feel like going to the gym. Even when you can’t take another rep. Even when you just want to watch TV and eat pie. Everyone has those days – and that is okay. Take a break, then think about your WHY, anchor it in, hold on to it, then pick yourself back up and keep going.

Knowing your deepest, truest WHY will keep you moving towards your goal even when the going gets tough. And when you need a little pick-me-up, consider adding a Spoonk mat to your daily routine. Spoonk can give you a boost of energy in the morning with just 10 min of use and can help you wind down and manage post-workout soreness later in the day. So, there’s a winning formula for you – set your specific goal, dig deep and find your true WHY, get after it and take a Spoonk break to reset and recharge.

Until next time!
