Ever wondered what it feels like to lie on a Spoonk acupressure mat – and want to get a first-hand account of how it works? Today’s blog is all about my experience as a first-time Spoonk user, what it did for me, and what it can do for you, too.
I am 33 years old and for my whole life, I have dealt with severe scoliosis and back pain. I am a mom to a 5-year-old girl and I never let my back issues slow me down, but it definitely makes things a lot harder. Depending on how my day went, my back pain makes it hard to fall asleep without taking over-the-counter pain medication.
I am always for finding drug-free, chemical-free solutions to improve my health and wellness, and reduce pain. So the idea of an acupressure mat that could do all of that for me was definitely intriguing. When I received my Spoonk Mat in the mail, I was excited to try it out to see if it could help me manage my back pain and muscle tension I accumulate each day working in front of a computer all day long – and then trying to keep up with my very active 5-year-old.
I unboxed my mat and it was as exciting as a Christmas morning! That evening, I placed the mat on my bed about an hour before I went to sleep. While it is perfectly okay to wear a thin t-shirt the first time you use the mat, I just went all in and decided a thin sports bra was good enough. Then I carefully laid down on the Spoonk mat and…whoa!
At first, I was afraid it was going to be painful, but it wasn’t. I felt my whole nervous system getting kicked into high gear as the body was trying to figure out what was going on. During the first 5 minutes, my back felt tingly and a bit sensitive – almost like when you get a very mild sunburn, but nothing crazy. What happened next was totally unexpected!
The tingly sharp sensation was replaced by a warm sensation! As blood rushed to the areas pressed against the mat, it felt like warm water was being poured on my back, and I began to relax. Due to my scoliosis, the area between my shoulder blades is always tense and sore. After 15 minutes on the Spoonk Mat, I suddenly realized the pain and tension were gone. Amazing!
The little spikes on the mat seemed to push a reset button to my nervous system, helping me relax and feel happier and less stressed. At the same time, the spikes stimulate blood flow to tense and inflamed areas, promoting healing and pain reduction. I was really skeptical at first but after 30 min, I was excited to have found an alternative to not only manage pain but to also help me relax and reduce stress.
So I used the mat – and continue to use it – every night. After a week, I started using the mat during the day whenever I felt my back pain coming on, or whenever I needed a break. It also helped reduce post-workout soreness and gave me more energy – all of this by simply tapping into my body’s own natural chemicals. If you are skeptical like I was, I strongly recommend you try the mat for yourself. Use it regularly and with an open mind, and see what it can do for your health and well-being. I am willing to bet you will be positively surprised!
